Week 6 Create Task

During Week 6 in our reading workshop we had to fill out a template and talk about a short story we read that we got to chose, I chose a story called Christmas in Columbia, in the template we had to fill out what we already knew about the country, and the knowledge you collected after reading it, questions you may have, and links you used to answer the questions. Here's what mine looks like.

Attitude

A couple of weeks ago in the Kaupeka hub a speaker called Rory came in to talk about puberty. I was expecting it to be very very awkward but he was actually very funny and didn't make it awkward because everyone goes through changes. the next day we did another session but we were split up from gender to talk about other things.. we also played a few games which was fun. we were told what happens to the body when we get older and stuff like that.
it wad fun to have attitude to come and talk to our hub.

Thursday Sport Rotations

Every Thursday we do a rotation of different sports to get a taster just to see if you want to join and start playing it a lot more, the sports we did was Cricket, Korfball, baseball, and Lawn bolls, Lawn bolls was my favourite, we didn't play the actual thing we just bowled the balls and tried to get them into holes and it was really fun it was probably my favourite, our team got 820, or it was 920, or something along those lines, I really enjoyed it I would do that again.
What's your favourite sport??

Haiku Poem

In my writing workshop we had to come up with a poem, it could have been any type of poem for example a Haiku, or a Limerick and there were lots more options but I chose a Haiku which is where the first line has to have 5 syllables and the next line had to have 7 syllables and the next 5. and we had to do 3 paragraphs, here's what mine looks like. (It's about my cat called Tommy)

Top Team

In the Kaupeka Hub, we did Top Teams. We did Top Teams a while ago in 2017.
This time, it was way more fun. We we're split up into 12 teams I was in team 12, we went around in rotations with all the activities. My favourite was called the water bus, one person had to fill up their box and then they had to pass the water to the person behind them without looking. And then the last person had to fill up a big box container behind them. The team with the most water would win. my least favourite activity was the conveyor belt because it was really hot and it smelt kinda bad, our team struggled to all move at the same time and people were pushing each other over.

Have you done Top Team?

Tough Kids

on Wednesday we went to tough kids along with a lot of other schools, each school was released into the course in waves, not long after the first few waves it was our turn, we went up to the starting line and they counted down and we were off, there was a rope separating the people waiting and the track, there were so many hands sticking out and people asking for high fives some people ran down the track giving people high fives, we went further down the track and came across a obstacle that was flooded with people, there was a big traffic jam but we made it through, proceeding down the track we had to walk through the water down by the beach and go through the forest, we went around lots of twists and turns and came out to a large field with lots of small paddle pools lined up, we had hop in them and jump over into the next one, next there were bouncy castles but we couldn't go through them because the air was coming out which was kinda sad but we went past it and through the finish line.

Did your school do tough kids?

Holy Spirit \ New life

For our Gospel reflection we had to create a google drawing and design something that represents new life, for example, an egg, lamb, or a baby animal of some sort, here is what mine looks like.

The lamb represents new life, as it is a baby animal, and the eggs.

School Camp!

Last Week the Kaupeka hub went to the YMCA Camp in Wainui, we had lots of fun doing all the activities like high ropes, kayaking, raft building and A LOT more.

One of my favourites was orienteering, which was where you had to go around the camp and find numbers which were shown on the map they had given us. At each number there was a symbol we had to copy down on a piece of paper and find every symbol and bring it back to the teachers, me and my partner were the first ones to finish this.

Something I learnt during coasteering was how to tell the difference between a male and female crab, the female crab has more of a leaf shaped circle with lines through it on their underbelly, on the other hand the male has more of a bell shape instead of a leaf.

Something I am grateful for from camp is the food we were given for morning tea lunch dinner and breakfast, there was never a time where I felt hungry during camp, we were well fed by the teachers and parent helps with yummy meals.

Something that I found challenging was being very far away from home and my parents, and waking up 6:30 in the morning to get ready.

Have you been to YMCA Camp? what did you find challenging?
